555 Astable Multivibrator

    Build a simple oscillator circuit using the popular 555 timer IC

    Oscillator

    Circuit Description

    The 555 timer in astable mode creates a continuous oscillating output. The frequency is determined by the values of R1, R2, and C1.

    Key Features:

    • Adjustable frequency output
    • 50% duty cycle possible with additional diode
    • LED visual indicator
    • Simple and reliable design

    Circuit Analysis

    Frequency Calculation

    f = 1.44 / ((R1 + 2×R2) × C1)

    With R1=10kΩ, R2=47kΩ, C1=10µF: f ≈ 1.4 Hz

    Duty Cycle

    Duty Cycle = (R1 + R2) / (R1 + 2×R2)

    With current values: ~55%
